Whether you're a DIY enthusiast planning to install a cabinet drawer yourself or a professional installer looking to refine your skills, understanding how to properly install three-section full-extension drawer slides is essential. The defining feature of a three-section slide is its ability to allow the drawer or tray to fully extend beyond the cabinet face, providing greater load-bearing capacity and smoother operation compared to two-section slides.

At Rebon, we believe that superior craftsmanship begins with the right knowledge. That's why we've created a comprehensive video tutorial to guide you through every step of the installation. But before you hit play, here's everything you need to know.

What Are Full Extension Drawer Slides?

Three-section drawer slides consist of three interconnected rail members that enable smooth and full extension of the drawer. They are commonly used in wardrobes, bathrooms, and office furniture. Unlike traditional slides, three-section slides allow the drawer to extend completely beyond the cabinet front, making every inch of storage space accessible.

Before you begin, gather the following essential tools:

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Our video tutorial walks you through the following five key steps (the video covers the complete wardrobe assembly; for slide installation, navigate to the corresponding steps):

First, Separate the Slide Members (Step 10)

Three-section slides consist of three parts: the cabinet member (outer), the intermediate member, and the drawer member (inner). Locate the black plastic release lever-typically found on the drawer member-lift it, and pull the inner member away from the rest of the slide. This separation allows you to install each component individually.

Second, Install the Cabinet Member (Step 11)

Attach the outer and intermediate members (still connected) to the inside of the cabinet. Position them at the desired height, ensuring they are level and parallel. Our wardrobes come with pre-drilled pilot holes to prevent wood splitting. Secure the slides through the horizontal adjustment slots using screws.

Then, Attach the Drawer Member (Step 12)

Secure the inner member to the side of the drawer box. Most quality slides feature cam adjusters-install a screw through the cam and into the pre-drilled hole at the rear of the drawer member. Ensure both slides are parallel and at identical heights.

Last, Install the Drawer (Step 13)

With both components installed, carefully align the drawer members with the cabinet members and slide the drawer into place. A properly installed drawer should glide smoothly with minimal effort.

Common Troubleshooting Tips

Even careful installers can encounter issues. Here's how to solve the most common problems:

Problem Solution
Drawer does not close completely Check the slide path for obstructions; verify alignment
Drawer sags or wobbles Ensure mounting brackets are secure; verify load capacity
Slides feel rough or gritty Clean with a dry cloth; avoid overloading
Soft-close mechanism fails Check slides for damage; confirm drawer is not overloaded

Why Proper Installation Matters

At Rebon, we understand that hardware is the unsung hero of fine cabinetry. Even the highest-quality slides will underperform if installed incorrectly. Proper installation ensures:

✅Durability – Correctly installed slides provide years of reliable use without loosening

✅Smooth Operation – No sticking, wobbling, or misalignment

✅Safety – Drawers remain securely closed when not in use

✅Aesthetics – Perfectly aligned drawer fronts create a professional finish

Conclusion

Installing three-section drawer slides is a manageable project with the right guidance. Whether you're upgrading a wardrobe, building custom furniture, or replacing worn hardware, following the correct method ensures results you'll enjoy for years to come.
