There are many kinds of materials for making panel type furniture. Today we will learn about one of them, a panel called medium-density fiberboard, abbreviated as MDF.
MDF is a kind of artificial board. The main raw materials are agricultural residues or sub-small fuelwood, and its main components are wood fiber and resin glue. A material formed after heat grinding, drying, sizing, paving, hot pressing, post-treatment, and sanding. Its main advantages are that it is relatively cheap compared to solid wood, easy to process, uniform in material, and good in physical properties. After adding paraffin, etc. it can be waterproof and moisture-proof. Common thicknesses are 3mm, 5mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 25mm, etc.

Features of MDF
1. The MDF is uniform, the surface is smooth and clean, not easy to deform, stable performance, smooth and delicate edges, not easy to collapse; non-toxic, non-radiation, good air permeability;
2. Good heat insulation performance, no aging, strong adhesion;
3. Indicators such as static bending strength, tensile strength, moisture content, nail holding force, water swelling rate and formaldehyde content all performed well;
4. The fiber of MDF is finer than that of ordinary chipboard, and the finish is smooth, without swelling and delamination, which can greatly reduce the amount of materials used.
Advantages of MDF
The MDF surface is smooth and flat, the material is fine and dense, the performance is stable, the edge is firm, and the surface of the board is very decorative. However, the MDF has poor moisture resistance, and in contrast, the MDF has poorer nail holding power than the chipboard. If the screw becomes loose after tightening, it is difficult to fix it again because the strength of the MDF is not high.
1. MDF is easy to be painted. All kinds of paints can be evenly coated on the surface, which is the first choice for paint effect.
2. MDF is a beautiful decorative board.
3. All kinds of veneer, film, melamine and other materials can be pasted on the surface of MDF.
4. The physical performance is excellent, the material is uniform, and there is no dehydration problem.
selection skills
Surface cleanliness: There should be no obvious particles on the surface of the MDF with good surface cleanliness. Particles are caused by impurities brought in during the pressing process, which not only affects the appearance, but also makes the paint film easy to peel off.
Surface smoothness: when you touch the surface with your hands, it should feel smooth. If it feels astringent, it means that the processing is not in place. The surface of the MDF should be bright and smooth. If the surface is uneven from the side, it means that there is a problem with the material or coating process.
Overall flexibility: a harder board must be an inferior product.
