Today we have multiple choices to select from to house our clothing and personal items. There are closets, wardrobes, almirahs, armoires, chiffarobes, and more available. Client's desire for open floorplans, clean lines, quality cabinetry, and comparable pricing is promoting vendors to offer more choices.
Here is some information to explain the differences between these storage options.
Almirah
Almirah is an Indian word for a free-standing cupboard or wardrobe. They come in a wide variety of sizes, styles, materials, etc. The materials can be steel, metal, mirrors, wood, glass, powder-coated, and more. You can have them custom or buy them pre-fabricated for any space in your home or garage.
Almirah is also a free-standing piece of furniture like a wardrobe but is usually smaller and can be used to store anything. An almirah also comes as a rectangular box-shaped cabinet which is used to preserve clothes, jewelry, money, and household articles. There are also almirahs designed as bookshelves to preserve medicines.
Armoire
An Armoire was originally designed as a tall, narrow closet-like piece of furniture with lockable doors intended for the storage of firearms, creating an ‘armory.’ It is freestanding, built from wood, and has one or two doors plus a hanging bar. It typically sits in a space as a piece of furniture.
Closet
A closet is usually built in a small to large room for storing clothing and other personal items. Closets help people to get organized using hanging space, drawers, shelves, wire bins, cabinets, and can even house a dresser or wardrobe inside the closet. Closets cannot be moved from one house to another, but a wardrobe is mobile.
There are three main types of closets:
· Reach-In
· Walk-In Closets
· Walk-In Closets with Pizzazz
Wardrobe
Wardrobes and storage units are essentially larger, modern takes on the armoire. The distinguishing feature of cabinets is their short legs, or they may reach to the floor. A wardrobe is a free-standing piece of furniture that has doors that open outward. It is usually used to store clothes exclusively. A wardrobe is often wider and with drawers built inside and intended to store clothing or one's ‘wardrobe.’
